Jeremy Clarkson suffers sleepless nights after difficult 'goodbye' on Diddly Squat Farm

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he suffers from sleepless nights after he was forced to part with some of his beloved animals on the Diddly Squat Farm. The former Top Gear presenter, 62, previously broke down in tears in a rare TV moment during a scene in his Amazon Prime Video show as he reluctantly sent his sheep to the abattoir for the first time.

Although it seemed like a hard task for the animal lover at the time, Jeremy has opened up about an even more heartbreaking situation after he was forced to say a final goodbye to seven of his male pigs in recent weeks. Describing the loss as 'gut-wrenching', Jeremy said that he suffered sleepless nights thinking about his pigs' well-being after they left his famous farm, The Mirror reports.

Opening up about his 'gut-wrenching' loss after the pigs departed Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds, Jeremy penned in his latest column for The Sunday Times : “I can never sleep properly the night before they go, and all the way to the slaughterhouse I have what feels like a hot cricket ball in the pit of my stomach.

“And then when it’s finally time to say goodbye, I always become a little bit unmanly. I know that I’m trying to be a farmer and that this is what farmers do. And I know I will enjoy the bacon and ham and pork chops that result.

“But it’s not easy, taking seven happy, healthy pigs from their woodland home to their deaths. Especially as pig prices are currently so low I’ll almost certainly end up making a loss on the transaction.”

After bidding a final farewell to the seven male pigs, there was even more heartache for Jeremy after a tragic accident took place at Diddly Squat shortly after. Although Jeremy had been looking forward to his remaining female pigs welcoming new piglets into the world, tragedy struck on the farm when one pig accidentally killed ten of her babies after giving birth.

The mother pig was later nicknamed Clumsy by Jeremy and his partner Lisa Hogan, after she sat on two of her 10 piglets, leading to all of their deaths.
