Jeremy Clarkson's farm show was rejected by BBC before Amazon snapped it up

Jeremy Clarkson's farm show was first rejected by the BBC before it was snatched up by Amazon Prime.

In Clarkson's Farm, the former Top Gear host attempts to run a 1,000-acre farm without any prior knowledge on farming and agriculture.

Although BBC rejected his idea, his show still became a huge hit on Amazon Prime.

Speaking on radio DJ Andy Jaye's podcast, he explained: "It's a funny little dysfunctional family we've got there but it's great. It's such a harmonious and wonderful workplace. I thought, 'This might work on television'.

"So I started pitching it to Amazon, who immediately said yes. Actually, I first pitched it to the BBC in 2008 and all they were bothered about was, 'Where would the production office be?'.

"I said, 'London, I suppose'. And they said, 'Oh no, you can't do it in London'."

He continued: "That's all they said. They never asked what the show was about or where it was going to be made. Amazon was a bit less bothered about that - and here we are."

His girlfriend Lisa Hogan also joined him in the countryside series.

The TV host recently discussed his happiness with his girlfriend and said they have a "lovely, lovely time" together.

There was already some very public evidence of this – the couple were recently spotted smooching in the street.

In an interview, he described Lisa as “ageless” and joked she “looks about 12”.

He added: “I get older and older and it makes people go ‘oh, that’s a bit weird’.

“But we are age and height appropriate, and we have a lovely, lovely time together on that farm, we really do.”

Jeremy, 61, is 6ft 5in while Lisa, who is thought to be 51, is 6ft 2in.

Speaking on the Andy Jaye show on talkRADIO, Jeremy added: “She describes me as chaotic and brilliant in the show but she normally calls me a lot worse than that.

“Lisa’s role in the programme is really to roll her eyes at me.”

Clarkson's Farm is available on Amazon Prime.
