Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat farm shop closes after Meghan Markle comments

Presenter Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat shop has shut its doors temporarily. It comes after the former Top Gear host faced a huge backlash over 'vile' comments about his dream of Meghan Markle being subjected to vile abuse in a column for The Sun.

Hs comments were widely condemned and he later apologised, as did The Sun. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex branded the apology by The Sun newspaper as “nothing more than a PR stunt”.

The piece became the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s (Ipso) most complained-about article.

Clarkson has since broken his silence on the furore admitting a mistake, but didn't apologise to Meghan personally.

The Mirror reports the usually outspoken Clarkson has remained noticeably silent on his social media since admitting he had 'rather put his foot in it' with his Meghan Markle comments.

Breaking his silence on the backlash, Jeremy told his 7 million followers: "Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people.

"I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future." The post's caption read that the shop would now stay shut after Christmas until February 10.

A week later, Diddly Squat Farm's Instagram page has notified fans of plans to close. The post's caption read that the shop would now stay shut after Christmas until February 10th.

Clarkson opened the Diddly Squat Farm shop in 2020. It has featured in an Amazon show, Clarkson's Farm.
