Jeremy Clarkson’s critics get their logic in a twist over gender violence

Jeremy Clarkson gestures at a football match
‘It’s the twisting of all politics into a man-hating agenda that drives otherwise perfectly reasonable people to end up supporting the idiot Clarkson (above) and his unpalatable views,’ writes Don Hoskins. Photograph: Matt Dunham/AP

It takes a real bending of logic to declare that the Jeremy Clarkson incident constitutes an example of oppression “by male power” (Letters, 27 March). If “gender violence” can sometimes be committed “by men against men”, then it is not “gender” violence, is it? It is just violence and the abuse of position. It is just power, and particularly of money and influence over others. It is such ludicrous twisting of all politics into a man-hating agenda that drives otherwise perfectly reasonable people to end up supporting the idiot Clarkson and his unpalatable views – it really is “political correctness gone mad” and does nothing to solve the very real problems of domestic abuse, and the double oppression of women within capitalism.
