Jeremy Clarkson makes brutal dig about James Corden's Gavin and Stacey book

Jeremy Clarkson has taken a swipe at James Corden’s show Gavin and Stacey while promoting his new book.

The former Top Gear host, 65, released the fifth installment in his Clarkson’s Farm book series, Diddly Squat: The Farmer's Dog, which is about his Cotswolds pub, on Wednesday.

He promoted the launch by sharing a video of himself reading a snippet from it in the book section of a shop on Instagram.

Addressing the camera, the former Grand Tour star said: "Look at this, it's my new book, The Farmer's Dog.

"It's about a year on the farm and what it was like to open a pub, and I thought I'd read you an excerpt from it, give you a flavour.”

He then turned to a page in the book and read: "We can't find a reindeer, so I'm having to use a normal deer with antlers taped to its head.”

Clarkson looked back up to the camera and remarked: “Exciting stuff, The Farmer's Dog."

He then pointed at the Gavin and Stacey book, When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between, which was displayed next to his book on the shelf, and said: "Better than that."

First airing in 2007, Gavin and Stacey ran for three seasons before returning for two Christmas specials in 2019 and 2024.

Ruth Jones and Corden co-created the beloved BBC sitcom and starred in it as Vanessa “Nessa” Jenkins and Neil “Smithy” Smith.

The final episode, which aired last year, drew more than 20 million viewers and was widely seen as a fitting end to the show.

Jones and Corden released their book on October 9 to detail their “own real-life friendship” and the making of their hit show.

“The show has played a huge part in our 25-year friendship and we hope this book will give readers a fresh insight into how it all came about,” they said.

The book “recounts the rejection, obstacles and challenges they faced on the way to giving birth to their beloved comedy creation”, according to the publisher.

The book’s release come amid reports that Corden and Jones are in talks for a follow-up show to Gavin and Stacey.

They’ve reportedly signed a major new deal that will see the project move from the BBC to streaming giant Apple TV+.

The pair are set to create and star in a 10-episode series featuring an all-British cast, sources claimed.

An insider told The Sun: “In what has unquestionably been a pretty miserable year for Brits, there is finally something to cheer — a new James and Ruth co-production. As you might expect, it is uplifting, gentle and very funny.”

Filming is expected to begin next year, with the show slated for release in 2027.
