Jeremy Clarkson "in awe" as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire player answers £250k question in seconds

Jeremy Clarkson said he was 'in awe' of a contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire after they answered a question worth £250,000 in a matter of seconds.

Julian Aldridge from Bolton, hoped to put his quizzing knowledge to the test and win some serious cash.

The geologist had previously appeared on The Code in 2017 and won £18,000 - but on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire he wanted to go one better.

However, it was clear that Julian was an incredible player as he only used his first lifeline on the ninth question.

He steadily built up his funds using a mixture of 'ask the audience', '50/50' and his own knowledge.

It was clear host Jeremy Clarkson was impressed by Julian, as within the space of 30 minutes he had made it to the £250k question.

Jeremy asked: "What is the name of a Swedish scientist known for his role in naming plants and animals?"

But as soon as Jeremy mentioned 'Swedish scientist', Julian was beaming.

The options were Karl Linnaeus, Robert Koch, Paul Ehrlich, Niels Bohr.

Without even questioning it, Julian locked in the answer of Karl Linnaeus, saying he'd briefly studied his methods during university.

Jeremy revealed Julian had the correct answer, winning £250k.

Julian opted not to answer the £500k question, as if he chose wrong he would lose £218k.

He said: "I don't know which it is, so I'm going to take the money, say thank you and call it a night."

Upon securing his £250k, Jeremy said: "Amazing, I'm just in awe of you, in awe of all your knowledge.

"You deserve every penny.

"What a contender, player and winner."
