Jeremy Clarkson feared he would die in horror crash while filming The Grand Tour

Jeremy Clarkson feared for his life as he got into a nasty caravan crash during filming for The Grand Tour.

The TV presenter, 61, landed himself in the near-death situation during a trip to Scotland, as his car's tow-bar came off when he negotiated a tight corner, which resulted in the caravan he was pulling along overtaking him.

Speaking about the upcoming special of the popular Amazon Prime Series, which will air from July 30, Jeremy told The Sun : "There was a point, when it started to overtake me, that I thought, 'God I'm having the biggest accident of my life'."

He added: "Then I thought, 'No, wait, I'm still in control'. And then, 'The caravan's come off', and the whole tow bar had detached. That really happened."

Jeremy's co-star James May was enthralled by the whole thing, as he thought he'd finally see the last of the host, who regularly torments his good pals James and Richard Hammond on the show.

James joked: "For half a second I thought the whole rig had gone off the edge. I thought, 'We are finally shot of Jeremy, with his beloved caravan'."

Clarkson's Farm star Jeremy then added that James was "laughing so much" that he thought his co-star's lungs were "going to come out".

Filming for the new series had its ups and downs, as it look place during Covid times, which meant there were restrictions.

One night last September, the trio and crew - who had formed a bubble together - were forced to sleep in caravans while shooting their 90-minute special, after show bosses had no luck in finding a hotel to accommodate them all.

Jeremy admitted the only way they could keep it "Covid-safe" was to sleep in caravans, which they were not too happy about.

Elsewhere in the show, Richard nearly drowned while filming for the upcoming special of the motoring series, according to Jeremy.

He said the scene in which the 'Hamster' was "upside down" in water after falling out of a fishing boat was so funny the whole crew raced to film it.

He quipped: "Richard Hammond falling in the sea - well going upside down again.

"Honestly my knees collapsed when it happened, I was laughing so much, that panicky laughter when you think if you don’t breathe and then you’re going to suffocate.

"Richard was saying after that 'no one was trying to help me', nobody could because we were too busy laughing."
