Jeremy Clarkson and RTE's Brendan O'Connor in awkward radio moment after Top Gear punch question

Jeremy Clarkson was stunned into silence after being asked how he reflects on the punch incident which forced him to leave Top Gear on RTE Radio.

In a chat with host Brendan O'Connor, the TV star spoke about his new farming show and the next series of the Grand Tour.

However, when asked about the incident where he punched Irish producer Oisin Tymon on Top Gear, the UK TV personality had little to say.

Brendan O'Connor asked the host how does he reflect on the incident from back in 2015.

After an awkward silence, Clarkson said "I don't(reflect on it).

Another moment of awkward silence followed before Clarkson added: "We don't talk about it, I don't talk about it, that's that."

Host O'Connor laughed awkwardly and quickly moved the conversation on to other topics.

Later in the show a listener text in saying "I don't know whether I love or hate Jeremy Clarkson". O'Connor added: "I know exactly what you mean."

61-year-old Jeremy previously apologised to the Top Gear producer he punched after settling a £100,000 racial discrimination and injury claim.

Oisin Tymon launched the action against the presenter and the BBC after a "fracas" in March 2015 that left Mr Tymon with a bloody lip.

"I would like to say sorry, once again, to Oisin Tymon for the incident and its regrettable aftermath," Clarkson said.

The presenter was dropped by the BBC following the incident.

Clarkson, added at the time: "I want to reiterate that none of this was in any way his fault.

"I would also like to make it clear that the abuse he has suffered since the incident is unwarranted and I am sorry too that he has had to go through that.

"I am pleased that this matter is now resolved. Oisin was always a creatively exciting part of Top Gear and I wish him every success with his future projects."

It is understood the settlement was in excess of £100,000, an amount to which both Clarkson and the BBC contributed.
