Jeremie Frimpong 'watched by Southampton' as Celtic face mounting Premier League transfer interest

Southampton are among a host of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Jeremie Frimpong, according to a report.

The Celtic right-back has been a sensation since completing a bargain £350,000 move from Manchester City last summer.

The Athletic claim Saints have been keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old throughout this season.

They're said to have been joined by "several" top-flight English sides.

However, it's highly unlikely Celtic would sanction selling Frimpong before the end of the month and would hold a strong position should Southampton or any other club firm up their interest in the summer.

The Dutchman penned a four-year deal in September 2019, with City said to have inserted a 30 per cent sell-on clause.

Frimpong is currently sidelined with injury after being stretchered off during Celtic's 3-1 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last week.

Neil Lennon, however, admits the problem doesn't appear to be as bad first feared, although was unable to confirm whether he'll travel to face St Johnstone on Wednesday.

The Celtic boss said: "We’re not sure Frimpong will be fit for Wednesday but it’s not bad and isn’t going to be long term."
