Jeremie Frimpong is no loss to Celtic and eight so-called class acts must follow him out the door - Hotline

He might be a diminutive full back but there is nothing small about the whopping transfer fee German giants Bayer Leverkusen are willing to splash out for Jeremie Frimpong.

And there was disbelief on the Hotline at the cash the Bundesliga side are willing to pay for the Dutchman who has only played 51 games since joining Celtic from Manchester City.

Hoops legions don’t exactly seem sorry to see the 20-year-old heading for the Parkhead exit door despite boss Neil Lennon admitting he feels let down by the player’s desire to leave.

Colin McArdle, Lanarkshire, said: “It’s great news that Jeremie Frimpong is going. He was utterly useless as a right back and likewise as a right winger.

“Yet Neil Lennon regarded him as a class act. I hope another seven or eight of Lennon’s so-called class acts who threw in the towel and handed the title on a plate to Rangers will follow Frimpong out the door. Hopefully followed by Lennon, John Kennedy, Nicky Hammond and Peter Lawwell.”

Alfie Mullin, London, said: “Celtic should bite Bayer Leverkusen’s hand off if they are offering £10 million for Jeremie Frimpong - he’s worth nowhere near that.”

Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: “A £300,000 signing goes for around £10 million. I’ll take that any day. Good luck to Jeremie Frimpong.

“He burst onto the scene and then couldn’t do the basics. An infectious smile only gets you so far.”

Muir Fulton, Ayr, said: “Why does Neil Lennon feel let down with Jeremie Frimpong looking for a move? He is jumping off a sinking ship to better his career.

“It’s only Celtic fans who are obsessed with 10 In A Row. It means nothing to these guys. Maybe Rangers should nip in and steal him. Then again, both of their right backs are better.”

Stuart Gillespie emailed: “£11.5 million for a wee guy with a bit pace who can’t defend or deliver a ball. The world’s gone mad. James Tavernier must be worth at least £100 million.”

But Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “It’s hilarious seeing Celtic pick up the kind of fees for fringe players that Rangers can only dream about.

“Celtic have had a bad year but Jeremie Frimpong is (going for) more than Rangers will get for the hugely inconsistent Ryan Kent or one-goal-a-year Glen Kamara and double what they’ll get for a fading and unable to score Alfredo Morelos.”

Lennon’s future remains a hot topic of debate and Rab Roberts, Bo’ness, said: “I support Neil Lennon the legend unequivocally. Decades of service, Treble-winning as a player and manager. What else defines a legend?

“Too many people class themselves supporters but at the first sign of trouble look for a scapegoat. Support your team through good and bad times.”

Edward Fraser emailed: “Going by Neil Lennon’s Hamilton pre-match press conference it looks like either the review the club claims it was going to undertake about his position has happened and they’re happy to have him in charge or everyone else has refused to take the job.

“Either that or they were talking a load of baloney and hoping that the team would improve and that people would just forget how bad the season has been.”

It’s not often the SFA get much praise but they were applauded for giving David Martindale the green light to officially continue his outstanding early work as Livingston boss after passing him fit and proper despite his criminal past.

Brian Stavert, Dumbarton, said: “At least the SFA got one decision correct this season. Great news regarding David Martindale at Livingston, he’s been a breath of fresh air with his interviews and deserves his chance.”

Ian Urquhart emailed: “Congratulations to David Martindale on being passed a fit and proper person to work within Scottish football. Common sense has prevailed.

“The guy did wrong but has totally turned his life around and is doing a great job at Livingston. He can be an inspiration to many out there and well done to Livingston by sticking by the guy.”

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “Well done for giving David Martindale a chance. Everyone makes mistakes in life and if someone has genuinely turned the corner then he’s entitled to another chance in life.”
