Jeremie Frimpong injury boost for Celtic after scan reveals no ligament damage following Motherwell horror tackle

Jeremie Frimpong could be back in action for Celtic after the international break despite fears he’d suffered a serious injury.

The young full back had to be subbed off during the second half of the Hoops’ 4-1 win over Motherwell on Sunday after a Devante Cole challenge left him in pain on the turf.

Cole was booked although was perhaps fortunate not to be sent off with concern that Frimpong had suffered ligament damage.

But the Scottish Sun reports that a scan revealed no serious issues for the former Man City man, only bruising on his knee.

And that means Neil Lennon could have him available in time for the champions’ trip to Easter Road to play Hibs a week on Saturday.

With Rangers hosting Aberdeen the next day, it’s potentially a pivotal weekend in the Scottish Premiership title race, Celtic needing to claw back some ground on their rivals at the top.

Speaking after the Motherwell game, Lennon said: “I didn’t get a good view of it because Jerry’s back was to me, but I saw the replay and he (Cole) is high and late.

“He [Frimpong] is in a lot of discomfort at the minute. It could be ligament damage, we don’t know yet. We will have to assess him over the next couple of days.

“I don’t know if it is ligament damage yet. It’s sort of thigh, lateral side, we will have to get him looked at.”
