Jeremie Frimpong in Celtic scare as Devante Cole's horror tackle sees Motherwell man escape a red

Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong was lucky to avoid injury after being caught by a horrendous tackle from Motherwell's Devante Cole.

The former Manchester City youth started at right-back as Neil Lennon 's side looked to bounce back from their midweek mauling by Sparta Prague.

In the second half, with Celtic leading 2-0 thanks to a brace from Moi Elyounoussi, Frimpong looked to make a break down the right.

Cole came across to make the challenge but caught his opponent above the knee with studs showing.

The tackle sent Frimpong crumpling to the turf, with understandable fears he had suffered a serious injury.

Incredibly the Motherwell man was shown only a yellow card for the tackle, with Cole perhaps fortunate that VAR has not yet been introduced in the Premiership.

Hatem Elhamed was sent to warm up for Celtic but Frimpong did manage to get to his feet and play on.

After 10 minutes though he was withdrawn for the Israeli, and the youngster appeared to be limping as he made his way to the sideline.

The 19-year-old has become a regular since breaking into the team last year and while his defensive contribution has been questioned he's become a fan favourite for his lung-bursting forward forays.
