Jeremie Frimpong Celtic windfall set as Manchester United move 'attracts' defender with price tag revealed

Celtic could be set for a nice payday should former defender Jeremie Frimpong leave Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

The infectious young defender enjoyed a good spell in Glasgow under Neil Lennon's trophy-winning side, but only managed two years at the club despite penning a four-year contract in 2019. Frimpong was quickly snapped up by the German side in a deal that landed the Hoops around £12m in January of 2021 and has been a standout since.

The 21-year-old's red-hot form has landed him in the transfer targets list of European heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona, but it appears serious interest has come from Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag is reportedly looking to add the Dutchman to his ranks to push competition for World Cup star Diogo Dalot, with Frimpong also among the Netherlands' squad in Qatar.

In a latest update by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Frimpong is said to be interested in the move to the English Premier League but with his price tag set by Leverkusen at around £25m. Celtic still retain a percentage sell-on clause for the fullback, meaning the Hoops could be looking at a seven-figure cash injection should the deal go through.

Romano said on Youtube: "Frimpong would be really keen to join and join Premier League football but no direct negotiations just internal discussions at the club to decide on the situation with the right-back."
