Jeremie Frimpong Celtic transfer boost as Roma have 'no wish to sign' rising star

Roma have 'no wish to sign' Jeremie Frimpong, according to a report.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed the Celtic rising star was on boss Paulo Fonseca’s radar as the Italians were set to weigh up a move in January.

But the Daily Record are reporting the Serie A side have no interest in signing the full-back, nor do they have the required funds to pursue a deal.

In the initial report, Roma were quoted a fee of £13million by the Premiership champions.

This will come as huge boost to Neil Lennon's side as they would not be looking to part ways with Frimpong midway through the season, especially with Hatem Abd Elhamed's future up in the air.

The right-back could be offered a quick return to Israel with a host of sides in the defender's homeland ready to offer him the chance to bring his spell in Scotland to an end.

The 29-year-old admitted his family have struggled to adapt to life in Glasgow since he arrived at the Parkhead club from Hapoel Be'er Sheva last year and said the impact of the coronavirus pandemic had only exacerbated the issues faced by his wife and five-year-old son.

His former club have been strongly linked with a move, with boss Yossi Abukasis admitting it would be a "blessing" if they were able to seal his signature.

However, Israeli league leaders Maccabi Haifa along with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Beitar Jerusalem have also been credited with an interest in his services, with the quartet set to fight it out for his signing in January.
