Jeremiah: Dolphins have direction towards an identity

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah joined Kim Bokamper and John Congemi on “The Audible” to preview the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine. One of the more interesting discussions centered around the overall lack of identity for the Miami Dolphins in recent years.

We’ve gotten some breadcrumbs regarding this team’s new philosophies and what the team is going to look like in the coming year or two. And while it will take time to allocate that talent, it can certainly help to have foresight in free agency and the NFL Draft to identify who the team will be interested in.

Jeremiah reinforced the importance, going all the way back to his time as a scout with the Baltimore Ravens.

“The best teams in the NFL have (an identity). I think that might be one criticism of the Dolphins. What does a Dolphins player look like? What’s their calling card? I think now they have some direction there…you’ll start to figure that out.”

The 2019 NFL Scouting Combine will be the next chance to speak with Chris Grier and Brian Flores. The Dolphins will be hard at work dialing in on their prospects of choice to help fit the mold. The defensive staff spoke about heavy-handed defensive linemen. The offensive staff talked about smart, cerebral players, particularly at the quarterback position.

Will the Dolphins’ leadership provide any additional insight to what they’re looking for next week? At the very least we’ll know the team will tip their hand in free agency and this year’s draft, so we’ll have answers soon enough.
