'Jeopardy!' host Alex Trebek spent final hours where he hoped, producer says

Alex Trebek got to spend his final hours at a favorite spot with his wife of 30 years, just as he hoped.

The longtime "Jeopardy!" host who died Sunday at age 80 after battling pancreatic cancer fulfilled his wish of sitting on his beloved backyard swing with wife Jean and admiring the view, executive producer Mike Richards told the "Today Show" Monday morning.

"He had a swing in his backyard that he loved. He actually rebuilt it earlier this year. He was very handy, I don't if a lot of people know that," Richards said.

"Even in his book, he described that he wanted his final day to be sitting on his swing next to his wife, Jean, and kind of watching the horizon. And he got to do that," the producer said.

"He was coherent. He wasn't in pain. And the fact that he had a nice final day, I think, makes all of us in the 'Jeopardy!' family feel much better," Richards added.

It was in March 2019 that Trebek first revealed he'd been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer.
