Football fans will finally have some live action to watch on Friday, when the South Korean K-League returns from its coronavirus shutdown.
The country’s top flight was due to begin in February, but was postponed as the pandemic worsened. However, with the outbreak now under control it the league has been given permission to kick-off, albeit initially without fans in attendance.
The curtain-raiser will see the defending champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors host Korean FA Cup winners Suwon Samsung Bluewings at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium, built for the 2002 tournament co-hosted with Japan.
Date: Friday, May 8, 2020
Venue: Jeonju World Cup Stadium
Kick-off time: 11am BST
Prediction: Jeonbuk 2-1 Suwon
The hosts failed to win either of their Asian Champions League fixtures, but after finishing second last season and with three wins out of their last four K-League home fixtures, they should have the edge over Suwon Bluewings.
