CoreWeave’s 2029 A100 Deal Challenges GPU Obsolescence Fears
Huang’s comments followed a disclosure from AI cloud provider CoreWeave Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV) that it signed a contract to rent Nvidia A100 GPUs through 2029 at what CFO Nitin Agrawal described as an "attractive price."
That means the 2020-era chips could still generate revenue nearly nine years after launch, despite several newer Nvidia GPU generations entering the market.
The development challenges a key concern among AI infrastructure bears that accelerating chip improvements could cause older GPUs to lose their economic value within two or three years.

That has broader implications as Nvidia increasingly promotes its chips as revenue-generating assets. The longer GPUs can produce income, the easier they could be to finance and deploy as productive infrastructure.
