Jens Cajuste reveals transfer 'disappointment' amid Newcastle and Leeds United links

Jens Cajuste has revealed he is 'disappointed' a summer transfer to the Premier League did not materialise amid links to Newcastle United.

The Magpies were among a host of clubs tipped to move for the Sweden international, with the likes of Brentford, Leeds United and Lazio also credited with an interest.

ChronicleLive previously reported on August 12 that senior figures at Cajuste's club Midtjylland expected the midfielder to be sold in the summer window.

The 22-year-old had spoken of 'counting down the hours' to the transfer deadline in the hope of securing an eight-figure move to one of Europe's leading leagues.

However, no transfer was agreed and Cajuste will remain with the Danish club now until at least the January window.

The midfielder told Swedish title Aftonbladet via SportWitness: “Of course, you’re a little disappointed. I felt I was ready to take the next step.

"But so, it is in football. I’m not the first one it happens to and won’t be the last. You just have to have the right attitude and help the club move forward."

Cajust declined to comment on the reasons why he was unable to secure an exit from Midtjylland, and was asked whether he would have preferred a move to Brentford or Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

He answered: "It’s hard to say. There are advantages and disadvantages to both clubs and leagues.

"The Premier League would have been great fun, but so would have Rennes."
