Jenny Ryan says Beat The Chasers has made quizzers ‘turn on each other’

Jenny Ryan has revealed that Beat The Chasers sees heated quizzers get competitive - despite being on the same team.

Beat The Chasers is a new version of the show where contestants take on not one, but all the Chasers at once to win huge sums of money.

Jenny - who joined The Chase in 2015 - appears alongside chasers Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty and Paul Sinha on the new show.

And although they're all working towards the same goal, Jenny revealed that there are a few "squabbles" when an answer is deemed wrong.

She told Chronicle Live : "It’s very fleeting. I don’t have a good poker face when I’m in the zone. You will get the glaring or rolling my eyes when someone gives an incorrect answer – especially if I was buzzing in."

She added: "We were having to remind ourselves we’re playing as a team. We wanted to avoid someone hogging the buzzer or crashing in with wrong answers."

And 38-year-old Jenny recently told The Mirror: "It’s been fun for the audience to see how we interact.

"You can see people treading on each other’s toes and saying funny things to amuse the others. And we’re used to working against each other, so it’s lovely for us to be a big team."

She added: "Oh we have a chart of wins. We look at all the stats so we can see who’s best at what topics."

And host Bradley Walsh is set to comback on the new ITV show, after it was revealed that he got emotional when a contestant won.

Speaking ahead of the show, Bradley revealed: "One contestant I was really welling up over the fact they’d won the money. It was a very poignant moment.

"They ended up going home with a lot of money – it was great."

Meanwhile ITV's Head of Entertainment Katie Rawcliffe said: "It’s so exciting to be expanding the award-winning The Chase format.

"Chasers and contestants alike will really need to hold their nerve to come out victorious in this new spin on the quizzing format."
