Jenny McCarthy opens up about husband Martin King's terrifying health scare

Martin King’s wife Jenny McCarthy has opened up about his terrifying health scare with a heart problem.

The 57-year-old telly favourite is back presenting the Six O’Clock Show on Virgin Media One since April, after he took a few weeks off to recuperate.

Jenny, 47 said: “You’d never think there was anything wrong with him, he keeps his best side out.”

Opening up on the ordeal, Jenny told Alan Hughes on Ireland AM: “We had a bit of a scare a couple of months ago Alan, he had to have five different stents put in around his heart.

“One of the major arteries at the back of his heart was blocked by 90%, so yeah it was pretty scary alright but he’s doing good.”

Celebrity wedding photographer Jenny and her TV star hubby are yet to meet their second grandchild due to Covid-19 social distancing restrictions.

Jenny told how modern technology is their saving grace, but they’re holding out to physically embrace the precious tot.

She added: “Baby Sophia was born to our son James and his partner Shauna, we’re just so excited.

“We FaceTime every evening but it’s not the same as giving her cuddles, so I’m only dying to get the chance to inhale her Alan and to take a photograph.

“She’ll be the most photographed baby in Ireland.”

Last month Martin quashed rumours he had been off work due to the coronavirus, after co-host Muireann said some viewers had been asking her if he had the deadly bug.

Martin said: “No that’s not it and I suppose the fact that I was gone for two weeks kind of added to that.

“But what happened was I had a bit of a scare just before Christmas and I had chest pains and then went off and had it checked and it turned out to be bad indigestion.

“From that they wanted me to do a stress test, which I did, and with that they discovered there were a few electrical and plumbing problems.

“So, for the last three weeks I’ve had five different stents put in because of the boys that’s at the back of my heart, the artery going in there, was almost 90% blocked."

The TV star warned the public to get your health checked if you feel something is off.

He said: “But I tell you what I am going to do, I’m going to say to guys, especially guys, because we’re the worst.

“If we get a pain or a twinge we don’t do anything about it, we just just go ‘ah I’ll wait a couple of minutes or days and see what happens.

“Go get checked boys, please go get checked because I’ve avoided an awful lot of hassle just by going and getting checked, having this discovered I’ve avoided what could have been quite a bit of surgery.”
