Jennifer Saunders forced to distance herself from fake PPE Facebook rant

Jennifer Saunders was forced to deny that she's behind a rant about personal protective equipment (PPE) circulating on Facebook.

The Absolutely Fabulous actress, 61, took to Twitter to deny that she wrote a rant defending the government over its perceived failure to provide PPE for NHS staff, carers and key workers amid the coronavirus crisis.

The rant also branded NHS staff "lazy" and blamed them for not having enough PPE to protect themselves from catching the deadly bug.

It had been shared on the so-called official Jennifer Saunders Facebook account, which Jennifer says isn't connected to her at all and is a fake page.

She tweeted on Monday night: "Not me. Not by me. The Official Jennifer Saunders Facebook page is not me. Please ignore."

The rant started by claiming it was a "message from Jennifer Saunders".

It read: "Let's get this in perspective for the crayon eaters who are set on pulling Boris down.

"Firstly THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT ORDER EQUIPMENT for the NHS, they supply the money.

"The lazy a**e MANAGERS of the NHS are the procurement sources.

"It's not the government that deals with the logistics for the NHS, it's yes you guessed it the NHS, more p*** poor NHS managament (government sorted that by giving them the army).

The post then claimed that the NHS had told the government the country is ready to face a pandemic two years ago.

It then said that because many care homes are private businesses it is the owners who are responsible for getting PPE for care home staff.

The post was finished by the page signing Jennifer's name.

A fan shared the rant with the real Jennifer, asking if it was real.

They tweeted: "I'm a massive fan just wanted to run this by you, is this a statement you have released? It's being circulated on Facebook."

But Jennifer was quick to distance herself from the rant and the page.
