Jennifer Lopez threatened Ricky Gervais over 'gutsy' Golden Globes jibes

Jennifer Lopez revealed she once warned comedian Ricky Gervais not to make any awkward jokes at her expense at the Golden Globe Awards.

The Jenny From The Block singer said she threatened to "kill" the "gutsy" Office star if any of his near-the-knuckle quips were aimed at her.

Speaking to Access Hollywood J-Lo recalled the moment she was waiting backstage at the glitzy event to present an award with actor Alec Baldwin.

She said: "I’m backstage with Alec Baldwin, we are about to walk out, and Ricky shows up. I say, ‘Listen! I will kill you, you understand, I am from New York, my husband fights, we both fight, we will beat you up after the show— with a couple of bleep bleeps in there."

Following the warning, the Reading-born star appeared to go easy on the actress offering nothing more than an introductory jab.

Later on, the Hustler star said on the Ellen DeGeneres Show her threat had worked because she'd "scared him".

Admitting that the comedian was brave in his approach to comedy J-Lo said: “It takes a lot of guts to get up there and make the comments he made and go for that type of comedy.”

“I’m sure in his mind it was all in good fun. But in the room, being in the room, it was like, eek."

Ricky's last stint as the host of the Golden Globes last year left the famous faces in the audience cringing.

The comedian made a number of jokes about some of the most controversial stories of the time, including jibes at Prince Andrew and Harvey Weinstein.

"Let's have a laugh at your expense," the comedian said at the start of his opening monologue, in which he vowed that the ceremony would be his last time hosting.

"Remember we're all gonna die soon. And there's no sequel."

On disgraced film producer Weinstein, Ricky said: "Our next presenter starred in Netflix's Bird Box, a movie where people survive by acting like they don't see a thing. Sort of like working for Harvey Weinstein."

Responding to groans from the audience, he added: "You did it! I didn't, you did it!"

J-Lo, meanwhile, is focusing on her relationship with former fiancé Ben Affleck.

The pair went trick-or-treating with Ben's ex-wife Jennifer Garner and their three kids Violet, 15, Seraphina, 12 and Samuel, nine.

Ben and Jennifer were married between 2005 and 2015. They finalised their divorce in 2018.

However it looks like things are amicable as the stars were spotted in Malibu enjoying the Halloween season together.

A source told PEOPLE: "Everyone gets along and the focus is always on the kids. Jennifer, Ben and Jen Garner all wanted the kids to have an amazing Halloween."
