Jennifer Lopez has revealed details of an encounter that saw a film director ask her to remove her top during a costume fitting.
The actor was speaking as part of a Hollywood Reporter roundtable alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Renee Zellweger and Awkwafina, when she shared the story.
“A director at a fitting asked me to take my top off... because I was supposed to do nudity in the movie,” she said, adding: “He wanted to see my boobs.”
Lopez says she pushed back despite being “panicked” by the “crazy” filmmaker’s demand, and said that a costume designer in the room kept quiet.
“I was like, ‘We’re not on set,’” she continued. ”I stood up for myself. But it was so funny because I remember being so panicked in the moment. And by the way, there was a costume designer in the room with me. So there was another woman in the room and he says this and I said 'no'.”
She said: ”Luckily, a little bit of the Bronx came out and I was like ‘I don’t have to show you my [breasts]. On the set, you see them.”
Lopez, who is the running for an Oscar nomination for her role in Hustlers, revealed that the director apologised to her later in the day.
The actor said things were different on the set of her most recent film thanks to the presence of a comfort coach for scenes that involved nudity.
“It was basically somebody who understood that world and said, ‘These things are OK,’ and, ‘These things are not OK.’ [The coach] made everybody on the set comfortable with what they were doing, because we had a lot of women who were half-dressed or naked, topless.”
