Jennifer Lopez returns to music with new album and movie

Jennifer Lopez poses for a picture

Jennifer Lopez is making a long-awaited comeback to music after almost a decade, and this time she is doing something a little different. Alongside her ninth studio album, titled This Is Me … Now, Lopez is also releasing a full-length movie called This Is Me … Now: A Love Story. The movie, which will premiere on Prime Video on Friday, February 16, is not your typical visual album. While it features several tracks from the album, it has a complete plot and a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Fat Joe, Jane Fonda, and even Lopez's real-life husband, Ben Affleck.

One interesting aspect of the film is the celebrity cameos. While some cameos seem to make perfect sense, like Keke Palmer who starred with Lopez in Hustlers, others may leave fans scratching their heads. For instance, what is Neil deGrasse Tyson doing as a member of her zodiac love council? Although it's not entirely clear, Us Weekly is working hard to uncover the answer.

Let's take a closer look at the celebrity cameos in This Is Me … Now: A Love Story:

Sofia Vergara: The Modern Family alum plays the resident Cancer on the zodiac love council, offering advice to Lopez's character, The Artist. This casting choice is interesting because Vergara is a Cancer in real life. Although they haven't worked together before, Lopez and Vergara are friends, as evident from their backstage hangout during Lopez's Las Vegas residency in 2018.

Jane Fonda: Fonda, a Sagittarius, plays the Sagittarian member of The Artist's zodiac love council. She agreed to appear in the movie after talking with Lopez about her rekindled romance with Affleck. Fonda expressed her support for the couple but also cautioned them about being too public with their affection.

Trevor Noah: The comedian takes on the role of the Libra on The Artist's zodiac love council, although he is a Pisces in real life. Noah was surprised when Lopez invited him to be part of the film and eagerly accepted the offer. He had previously met Lopez during her appearance on The Daily Show in 2018 and confessed to having a crush on her when he was 12.

Post Malone: The 'Circles' artist portrays the zodiac council's resident Leo, which happens to be Lopez's and Affleck's sign. In reality, Malone is a Cancer. Although they haven't collaborated before, Lopez publicly praised one of Malone's songs in 2023, showcasing her admiration for his work.

Sadhguru: The Isha Foundation founder brings his wisdom to the screen as the Pisces member of The Artist's zodiac helpers. Interestingly, Sadhguru is a Virgo in real life. While it's unclear if Lopez has worked with him before, she has shown an interest in practicing yoga, and Sadhguru's foundation operates an ashram and yoga center in India.

Keke Palmer: Palmer plays the Scorpio member of The Artist's zodiac love council. In real life, she is a Virgo. Palmer and Lopez previously co-starred in the 2019 film, Hustlers, where their on-screen chemistry impressed both critics and fans.

Jenifer Lewis: Lewis, known for her role on Black-ish, takes on the role of both Gemini twins on the zodiac love council. Off-camera, she is an Aquarius. Although Lewis worked on the sitcom In Living Color in 1993, where Lopez was a Fly Girl dancer at the time, it's unclear if they interacted directly.

Kim Petras: The Grammy-winning singer appears as her real-life zodiac sign, Virgo. Lopez has shown her support for Petras in the past, publicly congratulating her on her achievements in 2023.

Neil deGrasse Tyson: The renowned astrophysicist surprises audiences by portraying the Taurus member of the love council. However, Tyson, known for his skepticism towards astrology, is a Libra in reality. While it may be unexpected to see him in this role, his fondness for stars aligns with the film's celestial theme.

Jay Shetty: The life coach brings his Aries energy to the movie as a member of the love council, despite being a Virgo in reality. Notably, Shetty officiated Lopez's wedding to Affleck in 2022.

Derek Hough: The dancer and actor stars as 'Husband 2' in a montage where The Artist marries different men. Hough and Lopez previously worked together as judges on the reality competition series World of Dance.

Marcus Scribner: The Grown-ish actor appears as 'Husband 3' in the marriage montage. While there doesn't seem to be a direct connection between Lopez and Scribner, they are both part of the Black-ish universe, as Palmer and Lewis also starred in the show.

Fat Joe: The fellow Bronx native portrays The Artist's therapist and also appears as a motorcycle rider who breaks her heart early in the film. Lopez and Fat Joe have collaborated on various songs in the past and share a long-standing friendship.

Riz Ahmed: The Oscar-nominated actor makes a cameo as the group leader who helps The Artist when she attends her first support meeting for love addicts. Ahmed previously starred alongside Lopez in the 2023 action film, The Mother.

Ben Affleck: Lastly, Affleck makes two appearances in the movie. He plays a reactionary cable news commentator named Rex Stone and also appears as a motorcycle rider who breaks The Artist's heart in the beginning. In a heartwarming twist, Affleck's jawline is visible at the end of the movie when The Artist finds her true love.

This Is Me … Now: A Love Story is set to captivate audiences with its combination of music and storytelling. With an impressive cast and intriguing celebrity cameos, fans are eagerly awaiting its release on Prime Video. Be sure to mark your calendars for February 16 to witness Jennifer Lopez's triumphant return to music and the silver screen.
