Jennifer Lopez

1. Ricky Martin and Ms Lopez seem to be the only survivors of last summer's Latin music "explosion" and, with Jennifer's movie career ever-burgeoning, odds on she's the one who'll go the distance.

2. Her "disgusting" psychological thriller The Cell also opens this week in the UK. It gave the US box office the old one-two, grossing a perfectly shapely $17.2m (£12.2m) in its first weekend.

3. Latin, of course, equals feisty in the ever-so-subtle world of Hollywood and so Jennifer is seen showcasing her typical gutsy style, playing a psychotherapist forced to delve into the mind of serial killer Vincent D'Onofrio. Not exactly virtuoso stuff.

4. Still, it could be worse. Latinos in decades of previous Hollywood films have mostly just been of the unhinged "Eh! Senor! You want guns?" variety. Antonio Banderas was invariably typecast in such roles, occasionally broadening his scope to portray Latinos of the over-amorous variety.

5. Currently Ms Lopez is the only Latin film star to command heavyweight fees and displays humour and general believability in virtually every role she's been in. Blood and Wine, Selena, and Out of Sight - in which she can be seen smooching with the George Clooney - are stand-out roles.

6. Then there's her music career. Her background is as a dancer and singer and, though truthfully she's probably a better actress, her mission to get the globe writhing to tepid Latin-tinged pop has so far been successful. Her debut album On The 6 went double-gold in the UK and sold even better globally. The follow-up is due this autumn.

7. Surely it's only a matter of time before movie and music careers converge and we witness the sort of cross-promotional orgy flogged to death by the shameless (but still somehow charming) Will Smith.

8. Of course, Sean "Puffy" Coombs helped out producing on her debut and began stepping out with Jen shortly afterwards. Their relationship's since become the stuff of celebrity lore, with her inexplicably sticking by him throughout his numerous fracas, not to mention his gut-wrenching hip-hop karaoke.

9. Ms Lopez's bounteous curves, reportedly insured for $1bn (Puff Daddy has since gloated that they're worth at least $5bn), have rather inevitably captured the imagination of the sort of teenage males who populate the internet. Fansites are legion.

10. It's undeniable that, with her raucous beau and A1 career CV, Lopez is a bona-fide can't-touch-me star, shaping up to be an actress-singer diva of Streisand-like proportions.
