Jennifer Lawrence has slammed Donald Trump while revealing she used to “a little Republican”.
The Hunger Games actress laid into the US president as she said his election “just changed everything”.
“When Donald Trump got elected, that just changed everything,” she told the “Absolutely Not” podcast.
“This is an impeached president whose broken many laws and has refused to condemn white supremacy, and it feels like there has been a line drawn in the sand,” Lawrence added. “I don’t want to support a president who supports white supremacists.”
Her comments come in the wake of the first presidential debate on September 29, when Mr Trump was criticised for sidestepping a call to condemn white supremacists.
He instead urged The Proud Boys far-right group known for street brawling to “stand by” and arguing that “somebody’s got to do something” about the left.
He later clarified his remarks in an interview: “I’ve said it many times, let me be clear again, I condemn the KKK [Ku Klux Klan]. I condemn all white supremacists. I condemn the Proud Boys. I don’t know much about the Proud Boys, almost nothing, but I condemn that.”
During her interview, Lawrence compared Mr Trump’s presidency to that of former President Barack Obama, reflecting that “you would go days, maybe weeks, without thinking about the president because everything would generally be OK.”
Lawrence opened up about how her changing political views, saying after growing up in a Republican household, she changed her “politics based on the things I learned.”
“My first time voting, I voted for John McCain. I was a little Republican,” Lawrence said.
She said while she recognises “the fiscal benefits of the Republican policies,” she added she “could also see the social issues weren’t in line with my views.”
