Stars including Jennifer Garner, Bill Murray and Elliot Page have signed up as presenters for this week’s Oscars ceremony.

They join a list of already announced presenters including Mila Kunis, John Travolta, Daniel Kaluuya and Wesley Snipes, as well as Zoe Kravitz, Lady Gaga, Lily James, Uma Thurman and Rami Malek.

Anthony Hopkins, who was named best actor last year, and Yuh-jung Youn, who was named best supporting actress, will also feature.

Its organisers hope the big names will pull in a bigger audience after viewing figures fell in recent years, and will also hope their trio of presenters, Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and comedian Wanda Sykes, create some headlines.

The ceremony will be at its traditional home at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 27 with Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog tipped to win Best Picture and get her the Best Director statuette at the same time.

The dark Western and its director have already won best picture and best director at the Baftas and the Critic’s Circle Awards, which are seen as reliable pointers for Academy Award success.

Will Smith is hotly tipped to be named best actor for his role in King Richard, playing the charismatic father of tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams, while the best actress award is more open with Jessica Chastain facing competition from Olivia Colman, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Kristen Stewart for her performance as Princess Diane in Spencer.
