Jennifer Arcuri: Grandfather of entrepreneur linked to Boris Johnson led probe into Watergate scandal

Boris Johnson's friendship with Jennifer Arcuri has come under scrutiny

Jennifer Arcuri’s grandfather played a key role in the Watergate impeachment inquiry that led to the resignation of US president Richard Nixon, the Standard can reveal today.

Lawyer Richard Cates guided US Congress through the impeachment process and would have been the person who tried Nixon on the floor of the Senate had the disgraced president not quit, according to his Wisconsin law firm.

A relative in the US said: “The entire family is well educated. Her grandfather was involved in the Watergate inquiry.”

Mr Cates died in 2011, aged 85, at his home in Madison, Wisconsin.

After the lawyer’s death, former Congressman Robert Kastenmeier paid tribute, saying: “The nation owes Dick its eternal gratitude.”

Hillary Clinton also worked with Mr Cates on Watergate when she was a young lawyer. Mr Cates’ daughter, Christine Jendrzejewski, 61, is Ms Arcuri’s mother.
