Child-star-turned-best-selling-author Jennette McCurdy will be adapting her captivating 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, into a TV series, with Friends actor Jennifer Aniston tapped to lead the shebang.
In 2022, the world was left heartbroken after former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy published her brutally honest memoir, which detailed intimate moments of her life, including her relationship with her abusive mother, the realities of being a child star, her mental health struggles, her addiction and her recovery.
Three years after its publication, McCurdy confirmed her project has since been picked up by Apple TV+ for a 10-episode series in which she will serve as a writer, executive producer and showrunner alongside Ari Katcher — who is known for Ramy (2019) and Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show (2024).
“So excited and honoured that I get to create, write, and showrun this show and work with this incredible group of people,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

Alongside the exciting news, it’s also confirmed that Jennifer Aniston, who stars in Apple TV+’s original series The Morning Show, will be jumping on the project to play the “starlet’s mother”.
Apple TV+ described the upcoming series as a “dramedy” that “will centre on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kids’ show, and her narcissistic mother who relishes in her identity as ‘a starlet’s mother'”.

Reflecting on the memoir’s success back in 2022, McCurdy told The Hollywood Reporter she was “touched” by how her memoir connected with readers.
“I’ve been so touched by how much the emotional thrust of the story has connected with people, which I see as being my relationship with my mum,” she said.
“That’s an important and complicated relational dynamic to explore, and to see that people are responding to it has been amazing. And to see people responding to the humour of it and the aspect of exploring eating disorders and complicated grief, it’s really been incredible.”

Since its publication, I’m Glad My Mom Died has sold more than three million copies.
An air date for its upcoming series has not been revealed.
That being said, I will be following this series closely.
It’ll be interesting to see if they will explore her strained relationship with Ariana Grande or her interactions with “The Creator”.
