Why Jennifer Aniston's pals feared Brad Pitt was an 'a**hole'

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt's 2000 sunset wedding was such a private event that they even closed off airspace over the Malibu cliff-top location.

But speaking a year after the star-studded million dollar nuptials, Jen finally let slip some of the more intimate details from the day - from her husband's emotional reaction to what her friends really thought of him.

“I had those typical jitters the day before my wedding, but the day of, I was just excited in a good way," she told Rolling Stone of their July 26 ceremony.

"The nice thing about weddings now is it’s not just a chick thing. It’s a team effort. The stereotype used to be men grumbling, like, ‘Why are you making me do this?’ There’s nothing more moving than seeing a man cry at his own wedding," she said.

As for what she walked down the aisle to, Jen revealed they had a full gospel choir play a song from Blur's 1999 album, 13 - which featured Tender and No Distance Left To Run.

Brad and Jen were first set up on a date by their managers, and the actress was smitten from the word go.

“He was just this sweet guy from Missouri, you know? A normal guy," she said.

However, her friends weren't initially as sure as she was.

“At first they’re like, ‘I hope he’s not an a**hole, some conceited fuck or whatever.’ But you get past that in five minutes. Which is a real tribute to who he is. He just disarms you immediately," she said, describing him as a "loving human being".

"But, I mean, nobody went, ‘Dude. Brad Pitt!’ and gave me a thumbs up and a wink. They were just happy for me," she joked.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt talk behind the scenes on By The Sea

Brad and Jen were married for four and a half years before he left her for Angelina Jolie .

Soon after their split, Jennifer spoke of her devastation when he, Angelina and an army of mini-Brads posed for a 60-page W magazine feature titled Domestic Bliss.

“Is it odd timing? Yeah. But it’s not my life,” she told Vanity Fair. “He makes his choices. He can do—whatever. We’re divorced, and you can see why.

“I can also imagine Brad having absolutely no clue why people would be appalled by it. Brad is not mean-spirited; he would never intentionally try to rub something in my face. In hindsight, I can see him going, ‘Oh - I can see that that was inconsiderate.’ But I know Brad. Brad would say, ‘That’s art!’

“There’s a sensitivity chip that’s missing."
