Jennifer Aniston redefines the bedroom with an often-overlooked accent chair that quietly upgrades 'dead space' in her corner

Jennifer Aniston.

When planning your bedroom furniture, some pieces are more obvious than others: The bed, being the inevitable starting point, followed by a side table and drawers. What isn't as obvious, however, is a statement accent chair, which just so happens to be the quiet star of Jennifer Aniston's space.

If anybody can change the way you decorate your bedroom, it's Jennifer, with the help of designer Stephen Shadley, who is responsible for her spectacular Bel Air home. Jennifer Aniston’s Bel Air bedroom is a trove of unique design inspiration, from the raised bed to the James Mont-designed lamps that turn lighting into a form of art. For me, however, her mid-century chaise lounge steals the show.

While accent chairs are often associated with living rooms or sometimes entryways, Jennifer's chaise lounge re-emphasizes their place in the bedroom. Her mid-century piece upgrades the corner by her window, turning 'dead' space into something sculpturally beautiful. It's made me realize: Bedroom chairs should never go overlooked.

Jennifer's mid-century modern piece is perfect for her home that follows the same design theme, but you can still get her look without going for the same piece. Instead, it's better to be inspired to introduce a statement chair to our bedrooms, whether that's a chaise lounge or something else, such as a wingback chair, as designers suggest.

'Accent chair is an umbrella term used to group a variety of chairs. Accent chairs tend to be more decorative than functional, largely being used to create a visual focal point within a living space,' comments Alex Bridgman, the CEO of Bridgman.

'One of the most popular examples of an accent chair is the wingback chair, defined by its high, solid back and winged sides. Wingback chairs have been around for over 300 years and remain a popular choice today, thanks to their timeless, elegant style,' he notes.

Or, in a more contemporary bedroom, opt for a deeper bucket chair that's synonymous with modern style.

'For something a little more modern, the tub chair, also known as a bucket chair, has grown in popularity in recent years. With a low rounded back and no separate arms, its curvaceous design is ideal for both style and comfort.'

Will you be following Jennifer's example? Or do you already have an accent chair in your bedroom? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
