Jennifer Aniston Made This Unorthodox Color Combination Stylish — Her Dressing Room Is a Design Masterclass

Jennifer Aniston.

Green has proved to be a reliably popular color over the past few years, but great designers know exactly how to shake up a trend. When it comes to Jennifer Aniston's former Beverly Hills home, esteemed designer Stephen Shadley did just that – and it's all thanks to an unexpected color combination in Jennifer's dressing room.

While Jennifer approached the project with a sense of tropical escapism in mind, I'd say that her dressing room exudes a more moody, luxurious feel.

Tucked away in an alcove of cabinets, an olive green velvet sofa (like the green Pasadena sofa from Jennifer Taylor Home, at Amazon) steals the spotlight. Yet I was struck not just by the sofa's gorgeous mossy hue, but also by the bold purple pillows on top. Green and purple may be a daring color choice, but it couldn't look more elegant here.

Recreate Jennifer's Jewel-Toned Dressing Room

I've always been hesitant to pair green and purple together – at its best, the combination can produce an opulent, '70s look; but make one wrong move and the entire space can descend into kitsch. In Jennifer's case, however, the lush jewel tones create instant sophistication.

Finished in a crushed velvet fabric, the green sofa seems to reflect the light, becoming a natural focal point. The ingenious addition of the purple pillows serves to tie the space together, echoing darker elements of the room like varnished black floors and inky cabinets.

In spite of my skepticism about this particular pairing, Jennifer's space reminded me that green and purple can, in fact, produce a complementary color scheme – if you choose each shade carefully, of course.

Too pale, and a green sofa can wash out a space and conflict with other accents like the deep purple pillows; too bold, and the palette can become overwhelming. Here, however, Stephen Shadley's expert use of color has balanced the look perfectly – and according to Clint Collins, home staging expert at Houston Furniture and Rental Sales, it all comes down to the enticing olive hue.

'The green in this sofa isn't the typical green we see in many houses; it has a truly luxurious feel,' he says. 'Because of this, the purple pillows do more to match rather than contrast with the sofa. While green can feel overpowering in many settings, this darker shade is very chic.'

Moody and yet sophisticated, Jennifer's dressing room feels utterly timeless. In fact, I can hardly believe that she redesigned her LA home nearly two decades ago – especially since both earthy green and plum purple are huge color trends for 2026. I might have been struck by these bold jewel tones, but Jennifer has proved that they really won't go out of style.
