Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt reunite backstage at SAG Awards sending fans into frenzy

It was the reunion fans of the two Hollywood stars had all been waiting for.

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were pictured together for the first time in years at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night.

The divorced award-winning actors - formerly idolised as the golden couple - were pictured backstage on the red carpet sending fans into frenzy.

While the snaps have given some people a glimmer of hope over the pair rekindling, some of Jennifer's following have reminded social media users of why they split 15 years ago.

Brad, 56, and Jennifer, 50, warmly embraced with beaming faces before The Morning Show star planted a kiss on her ex-husband's cheek.

They exchanged words and as Jen parted to head back into the crowd, Brad kept hold of her hand staring back at her.

Brad and Jennifer were married for five years from 2000, but endured a high-profile split as Brad got together with actor Angelina Jolie.

Angelina and Brad have six children together and married in 2014, but split two years later.

In his acceptance speech, he said: "I've got to add this to my Tinder profile."

And added: "I wanted to bring my mom but I couldn’t, because anyone I stand next to, they say I’m dating. And that would just be awkward."

Jen also took home a trophy for outstanding female in a drama series for her role as the leading character in Apple's The Morning Show.

Stirring up a storm on Twitter,  thousands of fans shared their delight over the exchange.

One posted: "It’s Monday, the world is depressing...if I can spend 5 minutes making my 90s kid heart happy with a bit of Brad and Jen gossip I will..." while another said "...all we want is that happy ending for them both...".

However, other opinionated Twitter users were quick to shut the dreamers down.

One said: "It’s been 15 years since Brad and Jen split up. Both of them have been remarried and one of them has kids. Are we still talking about this??"

Another added: "She’s been good without him, let’s let this fantasy go."
