This comes less than a week after the bakery announced it would remain open for takeaway customers only on March 21.

However, a statement posted today read: "It is with regret that we announce our decision to close the business for a temporary period from Friday, 27th March, 2020, due to the current coronavirus health crisis.

"This has not been an easy decision to make but has been made with the safety of both our customers and staff in mind.

"We would like to thank all our customers for their support throughout these challenging and difficult times and look forward to welcoming them back to our stores as soon as possible."

The statement added: "We would also like to thank our fantastic staff for their dedication, loyalty and commitment throughout the recent weeks – we are truly grateful for their efforts.

"Please stay safe. Best wishes, Jenkins Bakery."
