Jemima Goldsmith paid homage to embattled Republican leader Donald Trump on Tuesday evening, but it certainly wasn’t the tribute he might have hoped for.
The associate editor of the New Statesman magazine attended Unicef's annual Halloween Ball dressed as Melania Trump, complete with a plastic version of her husband strapped to her back.
Mr Trump has been hit by allegations he kissed, groped and made unwanted sexual advances towards women, after sexist remarks he made about groping women in 2005 were unearthed last week.
Mr Trump apologised for his lewd “grab them by the p***y” comments before dismissing them as “locker room talk”. He has vehemently denied the allegations of sexual assault brought forward by four women, branding the claims “totally and absolutely false”.
Goldsmith also published two videos on her Instagram to illustrate her point further.
Magazine covers have not been kind to Mr Trump since the revelations, with the Economist and Private Eye both mocking the 70-year-old after a week that has threatened to derail his campaign. It remains to be seen whether Goldsmith’s costume is the first in a line of unflattering Trump tributes this Halloween.
In the meantime, his attempts to regain control of his campaign amid mounting speculation over its viability continue.
