Jelly Belly creator launches CBD-infused sweets

As cannabidiol (CBD) products continue to surge in popularity, the latest offering has arrived in the form of jelly beans.

David Klein, who invented the original Jelly Belly bean in 1976, has created a new line of “gourmet” CBD-infused jelly beans, which are being sold through his company Spectrum Confections.

CBD is the non-psychoactive natural compound found in cannabis that is praised for its calming and anti-inflammatory effects.

There is 10 ml of CBD in each bean.

"If people want a small dose, they eat one. If they want 20 ml, they can eat two," Klein told Cannabis Aficionado.

Klein explained how he became aware of the rising interest around CBD, which can now be found in everything from cupcakes to beauty products, and wondered: “Is anybody doing a jelly bean with CBD?”

“I could not find any,” he told the website, so began producing them himself.

While Klein says that the beans come in 38 flavours, only three options (original, sugar free or sour) appear to be on sale on Spectrum Confection's website, and all have sold out.

The additional flavours include toasted marshmallow, piña colada, strawberry cheesecake, cinnamon, spicy licorice, and mango.

“I love candy,” Klein added. “Not a day goes by where not only do I eat candy in some form, but I think about new candy ideas."

It’s not the first time someone has thought about adding CBD to sweet treats. Vegan eatery ByChloe launched a range of CBD-infused baked goods at its London and New York restaurants in October last year.
