James Jeffrey, the US special representative on Syria and Washington's ambassador to the global coalition to defeat ISIS, has expressed regret that certain parties consider that the regime of Bashar Assad has emerged victorious.
Addressing a major international security conference in Herzliya, Israel, Jeffrey stressed that Assad is not victorious, as many believe.
The regime controls only 60 percent of the country, said the envoy.
Jeffrey also told the conference that the Syrian regime constitutes a threat to the security of Israel and the entire region.
Those dealing with it are making a huge mistake, he said, accusing the Assad regime of causing the emergence of ISIS, the most dangerous terrorist organization in the Middle East.
He said Washington wants for this regime to stop being a threat to Syrian citizens.
Jeffrey also described it as “unwanted."
