Jeffrey Epstein's lawyers unhappy with ruling that he hanged himself in jail

Three of Jeffrey Epstein's lawyers say they will conduct their own "independent and complete investigation" into the sex offender's death.

Martin G. Weinberg, Reid Weingarten and Michael Miller have expressed their unhappiness at the coroner's official verdict of suicide.

The lawyers have now hired a private pathologist after stressing "no one should die in jail".

They blasted the Metropolitan Correctional Center's "medieval conditions."

"It is indisputable that the authorities violated their own protocol," a statement seen by New York Times reads.

"We are not satisfied with the conclusions of the medical examiner. We will have a more complete response in the coming days."

But the financier was put on suicide watch one month ago, it has emerged.

Jail guards on duty the night he died are suspected of falsifying log entries to show they were checking on inmates every half-hour as required.

A guard in Epstein's unit was working a fifth straight day of overtime and another guard was working mandatory overtime, sources said.

US District Judge Richard Berman, who is in charge of the criminal case against Epstein, asked the jail's warden this week for answers about the earlier episode, writing in a letter Monday that it had 'never been definitively explained'.

The warden replied that an internal investigation was completed but that he couldn't provide information because the findings were being incorporated into investigations into Epstein's death.

Epstein, who was arrested on July 6, had pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking involving dozens of underage girls as young as 14, from at least 2002 to 2005.

He previously admitted prostituting minors in 2008 and spent 18 months in prison after agreeing a plea bargain.

In legal documents he is said to have had scores of schoolgirls come to his mansion and give him 'massages' which turned sexual.
