Jeffrey Epstein's cause of death confirmed as suicide by hanging

Disgraced Jeffrey Epstein's cause of death has been confirmed as suicide.

A medical examiner has today ruled the 66-year-old hanged himself in his jail cell.

He was found unresponsive last Saturday morning at Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, New York, where he was being held on sex trafficking charges.

He also suffered multiple fractures in his neck bones and was pronounced dead in hospital.

His suicide came hours after hundreds of pages of court documents were unsealed alleging new details of sexual abuse claims against him.

Epstein, who was arrested on July 6, had pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking involving dozens of underage girls as young as 14, from at least 2002 to 2005.

He previously admitted prostituting minors in 2008 and spent 18 months in prison after agreeing a plea bargain.

In legal documents, released last Friday, he is said to have had scores of schoolgirls come to his mansion and give him 'massages' which turned sexual.

The disgraced multimillionaire, who never married or had children, is also claimed to have needed and when one woman didn't make him orgasm she would allegedly be punished.

He also reportedly had a penchant for 'threesomes with underage girls,' it is claimed, and hired people to "recruit high school-aged girls" for him.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons, which runs the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan where Epstein was jailed, said there had not been an inmate suicide there since 2006.
