It’s probably safe to say that last season did not go as planned for new Boston Celtics point guard Jeff Teague, with him ending up bouncing between the Minnesota Timberwolves and trying to stay positive after being dealt back to the Atlanta Hawks at a nadir, a team he left in pursuit of winning opportunities.
With the Celtics this season, he might have found not only a winning team but a contending one. He may also have found a club that will need his services considerably, especially early in the season as veteran point guard Kemba Walker rehabs an often-balky knee.

Speaking with team reporter Amanda Pflugrad, the Wake Forest product shared his thoughts about joining the storied franchise.
“I was just excited for the opportunity,” offered Teague.
“Watching them in a bubble and having a chance to try to make it to the to the championship and losing to [the] Miami [Heat], I always thought there was an opportunity I could come in and try to help the team. It was a place that I kind of circled in free agency.”
“I’m excited to have opportunity to be here,” he emphasized.
Teague also revealed he’s very excited to play with the team’s two young star wings, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.
“Two really talented players, two stars, in my opinion,” noted the former Atlanta Hawk. “Also having Kemba Walker, another star, I knew that this team would be really good. I just wanted to do my part, man, I’ve been a league for 12 years, I want to be on a winning team.”
“I feel like this team has the capability of going to the championship, and that’s what I’m playing for,” finished the Indiana native.

Long a fan of teammate Kemba Walker back to his days at UConn, and with a coach in Brad Stevens who has long been a fan of Teague, the makings of a potentially special backcourt is potentially in the making.
And, added to Walker’s veteran presence, the former Demon Deacon is an ideal mentor to the many younger guards on the roster looking to make their mark in the NBA as Teague has.
