Jeff Stelling slams Arsenal kick-off decision after Storm Arwen delays for Newcastle fans

Jeff Stelling believes travelling Newcastle United fans delayed by Storm Arwen have been treated with 'utter contempt' after calls to delay the kick-off at Arsenal were ignored.

Delayed trains wrought havoc for supporters travelling down to the Emirates Stadium for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, with the Sky Sports presenter indicating 'thousands' would not be able to arrive in time for the 12.30 start.

A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for the North East from 5pm onwards, with the potential for further delays for fans upon their return to Tyneside.

Soccer Saturday host Stelling indicated requests to the push the 12.30pm kick-off back as a results of these delays were 'ignored', and has questioned why the needs of supporters were once again being overlooked.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Stelling said: "The game between Arsenal and Newcastle will kick off at 12.30 today. That is despite the fact that thousands of Newcastle fans have been delayed and have not arrived at the ground.

"Delayed trains are due to get into Kings Cross at 12.40, but requests to delay the kick-off have been ignored.

"It will start at 12.30. What happened to how important the fans were? When we were locked down, didn't we all miss the fans?

"Then we treat them all with total, utter contempt."
