Jeff Seidel: This Lions team has been nothing but a tease

DETROIT _ Let's start with a cleansing exercise. To get rid of that emotion.

"The Lions got screwed!"

"The NFL is against 'em!"

That's it. Let it out and give me some vein-popping emotion:

"Everybody hates Detroit! It's a conspiracy!"

Feel better?

I know, probably not. But take a deep breath and face the truth about the Detroit Lions: This team has been nothing but a tease.

And it might be worse than that. All of the hope surrounding this team and the sense of improvement could be a mirage because there are some troubling issues lurking under the surface.

The Lions can't stop the run. They haven't been able to run the ball consistently. And they have struggled in the red zone because Matthew Stafford has been ordinary, if not below average, the closer he gets to the end zone. That wasn't a problem just against Green Bay on Monday. It has been the story all season.

Wait a second. I sense that emotion rising again. So it's time for another round of cleansing exercises.

Let it out:

"What are you talking about? They could have beaten Kansas City!"

"They should have beaten Arizona!"

"They could be undefeated!"

True. But they aren't. They are 2-2-1. And when you dig into their stats, there are some troubling trends.
