Jeff Johnson: Tiger King reptile dealer dies, aged 58

A star of Netflix’s Tiger King has died aged just 58, according to reports.

Former reptile dealer Jeff Johnson passed away in September, according to TMZ.

The website reported that Mr Johnson died by suicide, citing an incident report filed by police in Oklahoma City.

It alleged the 58-year-old, who made an appearance on Series 1 of the documentary, had been in a row with his wife when he made a suicide attempt on September 8.

Mr Johnson’s wife called 911, and he was rushed to hospital. However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, reports the publication.

During his appearance in Tiger King, he discussed the feud between Joe Exotic, and animal rights activist Carole Baskin.

“Carole’s lawyers are vicious and they go after anybody involved,'' he said in the documentary. “So everybody that had been involved all got dragged into court.”

It is the latest tragedy to hit those featured in the documentary, following the death of zookeeper Erik Cowie, who also died in September.

Mr Cowie died of natural causes on September 3, according to a statement from the New York City’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

He was reportedly found dead in an apartment building in Brooklyn, and was said to have been visiting a friend in New York at the time.
