Jeff Gordon favored to win NASCAR's Chase title, gambling website says

Nov. 05--While his sore lip heals after the brawl in Texas, NASCAR's Jeff Gordon finds himself the favorite to win his fifth championship this year, according to the online gambling site Bovada.

Among the eight drivers still in contention in NASCAR's Chase for the Cup title playoff, Gordon carried 10-3 odds of winning the title.

Next came Joey Logano at 7-2 and Kevin Harvick at 4-1, the website showed. The bottom two were Brad Keselowski at 11-1 and Carl Edwards at 12-1.

Gordon suffered the cut lip during a melee involving Gordon, Keselowski and their crew members at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday.

The fight erupted after Gordon, irate about a late-race move by Keselowski that cut one of Gordon's tires and caused his car to spin, went after Keselowski on pit road. NASCAR on Tuesday suspended four crew members, but no drivers, as a result.

The Chase field of eight drivers will be cut in half after this Sunday's race in Phoenix, and the remaining four drivers will decide the championship at the season finale Nov. 16 at Florida's Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Bovada listed Harvick, at 13-4 odds, as the favorite to win the Phoenix race. That's not surprising because Harvick has won three of the last four races at Phoenix International Raceway.

Gordon, a two-time winner at Phoenix, was the second favorite in the wagering for the race winner with 9-2 odds.
