Jeff Garlin has given fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm a sliver of hope for another season of Larry David’s comedy: he estimated there is a 51% chance of the show returning.
While at a Television Critics Association panel for his ABC show the Goldbergs, the comedian said Curb’s return depends almost entirely on whether David believes it could be good or not.
“Larry David is so goddamned rich he doesn’t have to do anything unless it’s good,” he said, according to Splitsider.
Garlin – who plays David’s longtime manager and friend Jeff Green in the series – also talked about the steps needed to reach a 10th season.
“There are two levels to getting another season of Curb to air. First, there’s the ‘Uh, I got an idea, I think I’m gonna write the show’. That’s step one,” Garlin said.
He added: “Step two is when he’s written six or seven episodes and says: ‘Yeah, I’ll finish it.’”
Garlin’s comments come after David, while being interviewed by Grantland’s then boss Bill Simmons, said the odds were against another season.
“I guess the odds would be against it. I guess, right now, the odds would be against it, probably six to one,” he said in December.
David also discussed the fallout over the ending of Seinfeld – for which he was widely criticised – saying: “It taught me a lesson that if I ever did another show, I wasn’t going to wrap it up.”
