Founder Jeff Bezos just filed to sell up to $5.4 billion in Amazon (AMZN) stock — and traders are watching closely.
According to the filing, Bezos plans to sell 25 million shares by May 2026, marking one of the largest planned insider stock sales of the year. Bezos is no longer Amazon’s CEO, but he remains the largest individual shareholder with over 1 billion shares to his name, and his trades can move markets.
As a result, this move has reignited speculation about whether Bezos is cashing out while the stock’s hot — or just reallocating capital to some of his other pet projects.
A History of Sales — and Where the Money Goes
This isn’t Jeff’s first big liquidation. He sold $13.5 billion worth of AMZN stock in 2024, which helped to fund his space company Blue Origin, his climate and biodiversity initiatives, and philanthropy work via the Day One Fund.
Amazon Stock Just Triggered a New Buy Signal
Despite the headlines about heavy insider selling, Amazon’s technicals just flashed a bullish sign.
A Top Trade Alert fired on June 24, when AMZN reclaimed its 20-day moving average at $212.77. The last time this same signal fired in April, the stock rallied over 20%.

Even more compelling, the stock has now crossed above its 20-, 50-, and 200-day moving averages, while accumulation/distribution indicators show buying pressure building.
Options Bears Are Backing Off
Barchart’s Put/Call Ratio page shows that open interest for puts is declining as price climbs — a classic sign that bearish traders are backing off and bullish sentiment is building.
