Jeff Bezos and Future Wife, Lauren Sánchez: Net Worth, Love Story, and Wedding Week Highlights So Far

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez have officially landed in Venice to host what is being dubbed one of the most extravagant weddings of the year. The couple's three-day celebration, running from 24 to 26 June, will bring together around 200 guests at some of the Italian city's most exclusive venues, including the Belmond Hotel Cipriani and the St. Regis.

Several events are also set to unfold aboard Bezos's £400 million ($500 million) superyacht, Koru, adding a maritime flair to their opulent nuptials.

A Grand Affair on Water and Land

The festivities began with a foam party on the Koru to mark the birthday of Sánchez's son. This kick-off event set the tone for a weekend of luxury, including welcome dinners, private receptions, and a show-stopping finale originally planned for San Giorgio Maggiore.

However, following local pushback over concerns about over-tourism, the final celebration was relocated to Le Tese in the Arsenale district, a move intended to minimise disruption. According to sources, the couple made a deliberate effort to source 80% of wedding goods from Venetian suppliers and requested guests donate to charities rather than bring gifts.

A-List Guest List Raises the Glamour and Security Levels

Some of the world's most recognisable faces are expected to attend the lavish affair. Rumoured guests include Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry, and influential media couple Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, a close friend of Sánchez.

Security across Venice has been tightened, with roads closed and water taxis facilitating discreet transport. The high-profile nature of the wedding has led to increased police presence and logistical preparations around key venues.

From Romance to Proposal: A Love Story in the Spotlight

Bezos and Sánchez began dating in 2019 after their respective marriages ended. Their relationship, though widely publicised, has been described by both as deeply personal. In May 2023, Bezos proposed aboard the Koru while sailing the French Riviera, presenting Sánchez with a 30-carat pink diamond ring valued at approximately £2.5 million ($3.2 million). Friends say she was 'over the moon'.

Wealth and Philanthropy: More Than Just Glamour

Collectively worth more than £140 billion ($177 billion), Bezos, 60, is the founder of Amazon and head of Blue Origin, while Sánchez, 54, is a former TV anchor and the founder of aerial film company Black Ops Aviation.

Despite their wealth, the couple have actively invested in social causes. Through the Bezos Earth Fund, they have pledged £7.9 billion ($10 billion) towards combating climate change. Their philanthropic efforts also include funding education, disaster relief, and cultural preservation—particularly in Venice, where donations have been made to local heritage groups.

Local Reactions: A Delicate Balance

The wedding has drawn mixed reactions from Venetians. While many welcome the economic boost, others have expressed concern over the impact of large-scale private events on the city's infrastructure and fragile ecosystem.

In response, Bezos reportedly abandoned plans to sail his yacht directly into the lagoon, a gesture viewed as respectful of local sensitivities. The couple's donations to conservation efforts have also helped ease tensions, underlining their awareness of Venice's cultural and environmental importance.
