'Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are next' - Manchester United fans react to Amancio Ortega's interest

Manchester United fans have been left delighted by the news Zara founder Amancio Ortega has registered his interest in buying the club.

The 86-year-old is worth $61.3billion, according to Forbes, and MEN Sport understands that he has informed senior executives at United that he is interested in buying the club. His interest comes following the Glazers' announcement that they are open to selling the Reds.

In a statement, the Glazer family explained that they were looking for outside funding to enhance growth. "As part of this process, the board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the company," the statement read.

This decision comes following protests from United fans against the Glazers. Protests this season have taken place before and during matches. Tech giants Apple are also understood to be interested in making a bid for the club.

Ortega owns 59% of Inditex. In the year to January 31 2022, his Artexio company generated €27.7billion of revenue. While Ortega has been primarily invested in real estate in Madrid, Barcelona, London, Chicago, Miami and New York, he has not yet ventured into the sporting world.

After hearing news of Ortega's interest in buying United, supporters took to Twitter to share their reactions.
