Jeep leaves trail of destruction in Walton before being set on fire

The driver of a jeep-type vehicle went on the rampage, wrecking cars in Walton last night.

The car smashed into a number of other vehicles before being abandoned and set alight nearby.

A black Ford Explorer vehicle was later found abandoned, damaged and alight in nearby Swindon Close. Enquiries are ongoing to establish if this was the vehicle which left the trail of destruction.

No injuries were reported to have been caused during the incident but detectives are looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has heard any information.

CCTV and witness enquiries will be continuing today.

Det Insp Paul Speight said: "At this stage it is unclear exactly what happened but we are treating this as a deliberate act of damage which thankfully resulted in no injuries.

"Although some reports were received of shots being fired, our enquiries have not found anything to substantiate this.

"It would have no doubt been extremely alarming to witness so if anyone saw what happened, or has recorded any dashcam or CCTV footage, please come forward and we will take action."
